Emerging Hippopotamus

£550.00

Robert Forrester, South Africa, 2026

Eyes and ears break the surface as a hippo rises silently in the water. A hippo has a large stout body with very little hair, a thick short tail and four hoofed toes on each foot. They stand 140cms at the shoulder and the head may weigh half a ton. The skin is greyish-black and pinkish around the eyes, throat and muzzle. Hippos live in a watery environment because of the unusual nature of their skin. They are nocturnal animals that graze up to 200 kilos of grass a night.

Dimensions: 30” x 20” (76.2cm x 50.8cm)
