Liquid Highway

£700.00

Nicole Forrester, The Sudd. South Sudan, 2022

There are no roads through the Sudd, just the liquid highway of the White Nile River. Without a regular ferry service, the people of South Sudan use irregular cargo boats, private barges and occasional humanitarian shipments to traverse the largest wetland in Africa. The boats are often restricted by water levels and obstruction in the channels. The Dinka people who live in the Sudd use dugout canoes for travelling along the narrow and sometimes shallow channels, as well as for fishing.
