Giraffes are not very territorial and as they move from one area to another, they join up with a number of others for a while before moving on. A stationary group of these animals is called a ‘tower’ of giraffes, whereas a group on the move is called a ‘journey’ of giraffes. This image shows three giraffes which were walking on the savanna, until two stopped to watch me taking photographs of them - the largest subspecies of giraffe and the tallest animals on earth.

Nicole Forrester, The Sudd. South Sudan, 2022
Young teenage boys in the Dinka tribe play a vital role in seasonal cattle camps in the Sudd swamplands, acting as the primary caretakers and defenders of the family herds. They manage daily herding, milk the cattle, burn dung for insect-repelling ash fires, and guard the livestock against predators and rivals. Older teenagers accompany their relatives on their daily fishing trips, learning the art of throwing and retrieving nets; net-making; gutting and drying fish. By their late teens, Dinka youths have transitioned into fully active fishermen.
