Christine Theron
Christine Theron was born to British parents in England and moved to Zimbabwe when she was five years old. Her early introduction to photography was when her father created a dark room at home and Chris developed her own photos taken with a Minolta camera.
Later in England Chris took a course on colour processing before returning to Salisbury (now Harare) where she worked for two photographers as a trainee for a couple of years, going out on assignments for advertising contracts and wedding photos, using Roliflex and Bronnica cameras.
Chris branched out on her own when her father built her a mobile dark room and she travelled around Zimbabwe taking cattle and horse show events before she met her husband and went farming in Marandellas, Zimbabwe, and then to Barberton in South Africa, growing tobacco. Having been a full time farmer Chris only went back to photography 40 years later, joining the Amber Camera Club in Howick, South Africa, and buying a Nikon 3200 DSLR.
Today Chris is rated a five star member of the Amber Camera Club and has an LPSSA (Licentiate Vers) as well as an APSSA (Associate) Honours award from the Photographic Society of South Africa. She particularly enjoys wildlife photography and did a lot of wild camping around southern and eastern Africa with her husband. Since becoming a widow Chris now visits safari operated game parks in Kenya, Botswana and South Africa, continuing to take remarkable photos of wildlife in these regions.
